New Toy in the mail

I've finally bitten the bullet and ordered a long-sought after digital camera. I'd originally 'promised' myself one when I got my first pay cheque, but various pre-Chrimbo expenses put pay to that. With my trip to New York to see Steve only two weeks away though I thought it was about time to set the moths free. The arrival of my new Nationwide Credit Card (with 0% 'everything' for 6 months) last Friday finally swung my mind.

After scouring the Internet and reading various reviews, I finally settled on the Canon Digital Ixus 400, in preference to the Casio Z4, the Pentax Optio brother of the Z4 and various Fuji offerings. I've played with Scooter's v and v^3 cams in the past - as well as Clare's Ixus II - and I'm sure I won't be disappointed with mine.

I found the best deal at Cameras Direct and unlike many of the alternative retailers, they actually had them in stock. My brother has also used them in the past without problems too. Since I'm anticipating taking a lot of photos on my holiday, I decided a spare battery would be essential along with a case (my one gripe is that it doesn't come with one). Within 5 minutes of confirming my order, I'd received a shipping notification (which smashes Amazon's turnaround time on an order I placed last week - for items that were in stock), and within 3 days I will have my new toy, conveniently couriered to work. "Excellent," as Mr Burns would say.

I'll definately need to get a larger Compact Flash card, either at the airport (tax-free shopping) or when I get stateside, but at least that should be easier to find than the ixus, which seems to be like gold dust.
