Mister Branson does well

After booking my Virgin Atlantic flight to New York on Travelocity last week I thought I'd see if I could register under their frequent flyer program. Having not had a frequent flyer number to provide at booking time, I was expecting a drawn out process of registration followed by an extended check in as I explained my new frequent flyer membership.

Within five minutes though I had opened a flying club membership, and found my booked flight via an E-ticket number. I was then able to view all the flight details and associate the trip with my flying club membership. I could have even altered my seating and meal preferences.

Virgin, like ING Direct and egg, seem to know how to make a website do useful things. Hats off to Mister Branson.

Just call me Abe

Prompted by my old uni buddy Pete, I partook in this highly scientific test:

Sp@m Sp@m Sp@m

Orange have finally caught up with Vodaphone and started a txt spam reporting service. Mr Maximus pointed out Vodaphone's lead a couple of months back and it has taken this long for another mobile company to match them.

So now all Orange customers can forward spam to 7726 (SPAM) for free and they will pass it on to the agencies that investigate these annoying arseholes. Those on Vodaphone can likewise forward the texts to 87726 (VSPAM).

This has been a public service announcement.

Happy Birthday, Mister President

Turns out Mr Parish does indeed have President's Day off work. Excellente. Gives us more chance to celebrate him getting his 3 year Visa which he's just had accepted!

Anyone got any 'must-see' tips for New York? Leave a comment below!

Two sleeps 'til Christmas

I've been knocked out by a nasty chesty cough and fever since last Thursday, which put pay to plans of xmas shopping on Friday afternoon with Georgie who had also taken a half-day off. We only ventured out for a couple of hours at the weekend but finished making my room feel nice and homely. Fortunately an hour's late-nite session at West Quay in Southampton last night sorted me out with everything I needed for Thursday, otherwise I may have had to reach for the panic button. I'd already run out of patience with Winchester's retail 'experience'.

After months of beating around the bush, I finally booked a flight to New York yesterday to see Steve, for a bargain £256 with Virgin Atlantic via Travelocity. There were better deals available a while ago, but the price is not bad considering the decent departure times. I'm flying out lunchtime on Weds 11th Feb and get back the following Weds morning, giving me a good 7 days to explore the city. Steve thinks that Feb 16th is a public holiday (President's Day) so he might have the luxury of a three day weekend, but the rest of it he's gotta work so I need to plan out my days! So I'll be having a good read of my folks' New York guides over the Christmas break.

Tomorrow is my last day in the office until Jan 5th and I'll be off to Bournemouth for the festive season. Georgie and Meg are coming to stay with us until Boxing Day which I'm really looking forward to, and the rest of the holiday is pretty much unplanned, including of course New Year's Eve. Hopefully we'll get the chance to go and visit Katie & Special in their recently purchased house in Godalming at some point. :)

Merry Christmas everybody!

5min commute? bonza!

Today is one of those day's that I'm glad I don't have to commute from Bournemouth anymore: Winchester and probably the majority of the South of England is shrouded in Fog. Fortunately it didn't delay the delivery of a new mattress for my room, so I might be able to get a decent night's sleep tomorrow.

I can't imagine sleeping will be too difficult this evening though after the MyEmployer party, irrespective of the volume of alcohol consumed. We've taken up the offer of a discounted room at the hotel and I for one am looking forward to breakfast, assuming the hangover doesn't forbid further intake of food.

After a good kickabout in Eastleigh last night it looks like I've got a regular football action lined up 3 days a week, which might go some way to preventing the occasional cramps on a Saturday afternoon. Not that we really had to sweat during our 7-1 thrashing of Worplesdon Reserves in the second round of the cup last week.

Well at least you don't have to look at my nipples anymore, which have returned to full health and are now well protected each week by Tesco's finest plasters.
